In the small village in southwest Cameroon, Vera Ngassa, a state prosecutor and Beatrice Ntuba, a senior judge dispense fair justice with wisdom, compassion and humor.  The issues deal with women and children’s rights.  These women handle serious offences with no red tape, no institutional log jams and no nonsense.  In this society, where traditional Shaira law has imposed severe hardships for women, these are great victories.  The film is eye opening, powerful and uplifting.

Our local League Of Women Voters is participating in Dining to Donate at Prime 15 in Ringwood next Wednesday, February 24. We will receive 10% of that days’ net profits.  Lunch and dinner are both included in this fundraising program.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

For the Center for Food Action (CFA):

• Run a Food Drive at your Neighborhood Supermarket (see list attached)
• Run a Diaper Drive – most needed are larger sizes (4, 5, 6), as well as wipes and pull ups*
• Collect personal items: soaps, shampoos, conditioners, moisturizers, and sanitary pads
• Purchase Supermarket Gift Cards in small denominations up to $20 each

For the Center for Family Resources (CFR):

• Run a Diaper Drive- all sizes from 3 months through size 6, as well as wipes and pull ups *
• Collect Snack Items (See list attached)
• Purchase Supermarket Gift Cards in small denominations
• Students: Spend an hour a week entertaining the children at CFR – read to them, sing to them, dance with them, put on a skit or a puppet show.
• Adults:  Read to the children at CFFR, provide free haircuts, English/ Spanish translating,
• Teaching work skills to young mothers, help with resume writing

Monetary Donations:  Donations to both CFA and CFR are Tax Deductible

*Diaper Drives*- We are hoping to have two kinds of Diaper Drives

The Center for Food Action needs packages of diapers and wipes meant for individual families.  You can purchase these in your local supermarkets or at places like Target, BJ’s, Wal Mart or Costco.

The Center for Family Resources now has a registry @ www.Diapers.com

There are currently over 70 small children enrolled in the Head Start and day care programs at the Center for Family Resources and there is a constant need for diapers and wipes. You may want to fund raise first for some of these items and then go on line and order.

Please go on line to www.Diapers.com and click on the prompt for “the Baby Registry”.

Click on “Find a Registry” and put in “Ruhl” under last name and “Elaine” under first name.

Click on “Search”.   Click on “View this Registry” The list of items will come up. Select a quantity and follow the rest of the prompts to complete your order.  You can even leave a message.  The diapers and wipes are very economical because they are boxed in large quantities.  Shipping is free.

Other Ways You Can Help

Help elderly neighbors by: shoveling snow, taking recycling/trash to the curb, walking a dog, making a homemade meal, taking them food shopping or to a doctor or to their house of worship.

Children: Donate a portion your allowance or money you make from doing chores or babysitting.
